OUR MISSION
CTA’s adapted work chain wishes to play a unique social role in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region by combining the expertise of all employees, in order to permanently integrate people living with limitations into the labour market. The success of this integration is achieved to the extent that we strike a balance between the need to carry out profitable production activities and the need to promote the personal and professional success of workers with and without limitation.
ABOUT CTA
The Adapted Work Chain (CTA) has been in existence since 1981. It is a non-profit company designated adapted company accredited by Emploi-Québec. To be designated an “adapted company”, it is necessary, among other things, to have at all times a workforce composed of at least 60% of people living with physical and/or intellectual limitations.

CREATOR
MICHAEL KELLY
A native of Alma and an architect by training, Michael Kelly has always had innovative ideas since his childhood that led him in 1996 to the invention of the BakGlo. A fan of family camping, he was looking for a way to put his wife and children at ease around the campfire by making their backs warm as the front of the body in front of the fire.
Mr. Kelly, using his ingenuity, thought that finding a reflective material could solve this problem. He installed a curved reflective material on the back of a camping chair, at the top and bottom, allowing the heat to be reflected in the back, and he realized that in less than a minute, the back was as hot as the front of the body facing the fire.
Realizing that he had an idea that worked, he acquired the Canadian and American patents, and with the help of the National Research Council of Canada, a market study showed that the chances of success were very good. The first few years were laborious for the family. After the days of work and school for the children, in the evening, all participated in the manufacture of bakGlo in the garage, which had become the factory.
For more than a year, he focused on finding the best reflective and weather-resistant material (PVC). This being accomplished, he made a mold and produced the technical drawings for the manufacture of the handles, then he designed and manufactured the press to cut the PVC and other equipment necessary for the manufacture of BakGlo.
With sales increasing a year later, as the family could no longer provide services on demand, Mr. Kelly turned to an adapted work centre that resumed production in Gatineau, the family home at the time. After demonstrating BakGlo’s effectiveness in various camping events, in 2002 the product was presented at Lee Valley Tools in Ottawa, where it was a great success. When he returned to retire to Lac St-Jean and did not want to give up what he had accomplished, through a friend, he was put in touch with the cta, from where a whole new adventure began for the BakGlo!
